Yorkville's flagship sound reinforcement speakers, the Unity™ Series, are perhaps the finest vocal PA speakers ever built.  [They're certainly the best ones I've ever played through! -BW]

The Unity Series is a radical loudspeaker cabinet design utilizing the patented Unity Summation Aperture Horn Technology, which was invented by loudspeaker designer Tom Danley and licensed from Sound Physics Labs Inc.  The Unity Series pushes the limits of modern sound reinforcement technology, featuring a radical new loudspeaker horn design, arguably the first major evolution in horn technology in the last 60 years.  Ultra clear reproduction through the high-mid band with extremely linear frequency response has been achieved using this patented horn technology, which combines a single 1" throat with a 1.75" diaphragm high frequency compression driver alongside three 5" ceramic magnet midrange drivers in a single, highly efficient conical horn.  This combines high and mid frequency energy in a single 60º x 60º conical horn that produces frequencies from 300Hz to 20kHz.

The combined four drivers mounted in the horn act like a single point source; i.e., like one driver.  Additional digital signal processing (DSP) is not required to time-align the mid and high frequencies together like conventional systems.  This minimizes, if not eliminates, the major phasing and lobing problems typically associated with a standard multiple horn 3-way system, while creating a system that is also simpler to use.  This is a professional quality speaker that's easy for people of all experience levels to use.

As a result of the Unity's efficient horn loading and high headroom, midrange distortion is typically much lower than that measured in most PA speakers at the same SPL, and far lower than any 2" compression driver could attain.  Unlike other multi-driver, two or three way full range speaker systems, there is little self-interference between the various components at crossover; and unlike conventional loudspeaker systems, the polar plots are free of lobes and large changes in directivity vs. frequency.

Unity™ technology takes advantage of the variable flare rate nature of a conical horn.  The front-to-back spacing of the drivers on the horn exactly compensates for a drivers inherent "built-in" delays and the phase shift/delay introduced by the crossover.  The polar measurements (on the left) show that while there are four drivers loading the horn, acoustically they act as one source.  Acoustic phase measurements give no indication of where the crossover is; it looks and acts like one point source.

All Unity Series cabinets function equally on their own or in tight packed cluster arrays (see plots).  To assist in rigging and flying the cabinets, nine rigging/flying points with threaded inserts are standard: 2 on top, 2 on the bottom, 2 on each side, and a single pullback.

Other features of the Unity Series include:

  • Custom composite horns are specifically designed for each cabinet and feature the patented Unity™ horn technology.
  • 800 watt 15" Neodymium magnet woofers with 3" voice coils mounted on an ultra lightweight basket.  This combination helps reduce the woofer weight to a mere 10lbs (4.5kgs) each.
  • seamless driver interaction through sophisticated high-slope passive networks.
  • rugged jackplates are inset and include a combination of both Speakon™ and 1/4" phone jack inputs.
  • Full-range or bi-amped operation.
  • PTC™ horn protection -- current sensing to protect the horn driver, and self-resetting.
  • All Unity cabinets feature a specially reinforced driver mounting system.  The composite horns are pressure fitted to the driver, which is bolted to the internal driver support.
  • Choice of rugged black carpet covering or optional black super-durable Ultrathane paint.
  • Curved metal speaker grilles to resist dings and dents while eliminating frequency resonance.
  • Trapezoidal cabinet shape allows for arrayable performance without phase cancellation.
  • Recessed handles.
  • Built-in pole mount adapter (U15/U15B).
  • Yorkville covers all Unity™ Series cabinets with their famous “even if you break it” 2 year unconditional warranty (valid in the US and Canada only).

Seems like everyone has a powered monitor speaker in a plastic case these days.  We think that Yorkville's NX55P is a cut above the rest of the field. It's very loud and clean, and makes a great stage monitor for keyboards, or an all-in-one setup for an instrument and vocals. And this lightweight dynamo only weighs 47 lbs!

The new NX55P active speaker enclosure uses a combination of amplifier technologies to create the best combination of lightweight enclosure and high quality sound.  Capitalizing on the already popular NX35’s molded cabinet technology, and adding totally new switching power supply amplification and neodymium drivers, the 550 watt bi-amped NX55P is a lightweight dynamo!

The NX55P is manufactured using tough, light weight low resonance variable density composite materials.  In addition they are UV and moisture resistant.  The NX55P enclosure itself has been molded for maximum versatility. The trapezoid box is ideal for mounting in arrays, or for use as a monitor.  An improved wedge monitor angle has been incorporated into the new design.

The horn amplifier uses a two-tier class H linear technology, allowing the horn to produce loud clean transients to keep up with the high output of the woofer.  The two-tier Class H amplifier technology is a lower weight, more efficient amplifier with higher headroom and lower operating temperature.  It is a perfect solution for powering the top end.  A newly designed switching amplifier drives the bottom end in the NX55P. "The woofer amplifier uses Class D switching technology to reduce overall weight of the amplifier section, and the Neodymium woofer magnetics reduce the weight even further.

The NX55P has a versatile direct input system and built-in mixer.  The mixer allows the loudspeaker to be used directly with a microphone and/or line sources.  The loop output allows additional active cabinets to be driven from one cabinet’s mixer stage, or a series of cabinets to be driven from one source.  If desired, the end user can combine multiple NX55P’s using the mixer inputs on each cabinet and coupling the loop outputs.  In this simple example you would have the ideal presentation system with two microphone inputs, two line inputs.

The microphone input has equalization and high pass filtering appropriate for vocal applications.  The trim control allows looped cabinets to be individually adjusted in level.  The NX55P has user defeatable 100Hz high pass filters allow either cabinet to be used more efficiently with a subwoofer.

Need even more power? The NX750P provides 200W additional woofer power, driven into a 15" speaker with Neodymium woofer, all in a 62 lb. package!

Other features of the NX55P and NX750P include:

  • Dual purpose full range and wedge monitor format enclosure.
  • Deep and shallow wedge angles to allow use in many locations.
  • Lightweight, high efficiency, high tech, 550 Watt (NX55P) or 750 Watt (NX750P) Bi-amped power module.
  • Multi-input source mixer for direct inputs.
  • XLR and TRS inputs/outputs for easy connection and looping.
  • +/- 6dB input trim control for individual cabinet level adjustment.
  • Integrated flying hardware (1/4" threaded holes).
  • Tough, full length metal grille.
  • Recessed Mixer panel.
